Hnin Nwe Oo, 30 is from Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon. She is a mother of two children: a seven-year-old boy and a four-month-old girl. Her husband is a manual labourer who works a range of jobs. Their life was relatively comfortable before the COVID-19 crisis affected their job security. Hnin Nwe Oo had worked at World Jin Garment Factory for over five years when she lost her job because the factory closed down.

“The factory shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of April. To make matters worse, the factory owner ran away in May and we didn't receive our salary for the previous month. It was very difficult for me back then because I was worried about how to pay the rent and buy rice that I used to purchase with a monthly loan. My husband also became jobless since he couldn't go out to look for jobs due to the government’s lockdown restrictions," said Hnin Nwe Oo. 

Hnin was one of over 300 employees of the World Jin factory who lost their jobs without receiving any severance packages. She felt hopeless thinking about her family's future, with no source of income to sustain themselves. 

"Since both my husband and I became unemployed, we had no income to buy food and pay the debt. The landlord and our debtors didn't seem to be as pleased with us as before. We, the adults, were doing okay, but we couldn't help worrying about our children. I even cried sometimes."

A group called Yaung Chi Oo Workers Association (YCOWA) advocates for the rights of workers like Hnin, who is currently volunteering there. Through this group, she connected with Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM), a project partner of Save the Children. Save the Children is supporting hundreds of workers who have lost their incomes through multipurpose monthly cash distributions, supported by the Livelihoods and Food Security Fund (LIFT). 

Hnin said that the payments received through Save the Children have been essential. "I received the first cash transfer from Save the Children in May and it was of great help for my family. I was very happy because with this money we managed to pay the rent and buy rice, groceries and other necessary stuff. It was a great relief for us in times of trouble like this."

When she goes to volunteer at YCOWA, she always brings her son – but needs to leave her four-month-old daughter with neighbours for babysitting which costs her 2,000 kyats daily. She is happy to work there as a volunteer while she is looking for other job opportunities. 

"Since we don't know if the factory will reopen or not, I have applied for jobs at other places. I received a second cash transfer from Save the Children in June and I am very grateful for this. On behalf of my other colleagues who also received the cash support, I want to thank Save the Children and the donors for their help, especially in times of crisis like this."

အသက် ၃၀ အရွယ် မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးမှာ ၇ နှစ်အရွယ်သားလေးတစ်ဦးနဲ့ လေးလအရွယ် သမီးလေးတစ်ဦးရှိပြီး ရန်ကုန်မြို့၊ ရွှေပြည်သာမြို့နယ်မှာ နေထိုင်ပါတယ်။ သူ့ရဲ့အမျိုးသား ကတော့ ကျပန်းအလုပ်လုပ်ကိုင်သူတစ်ဦးဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ COVID-19 ကပ်ရောဂါကြောင့် အလုပ်အကိုင်တွေမထိခိုက်ခင်အချိန်ကတော့ သူတို့မိသားစုဘဝဟာ အဆင်ပြေခဲ့ပါတယ်။ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးဟာ World Jin အထည်ချုပ်စက်ရုံမှာ ၅ နှစ်ကျော်လုပ်ကိုင်ခဲ့ပြီး စက်ရုံပိတ်လိုက်တဲ့အချိန်မှာတော့ အလုပ်အကိုင်ဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ပါတယ်။

"COVID-19 ကပ်ရောဂါရဲ့ ရိုက်ခတ်မှုကြောင့် ကျွန်မအလုပ်လုပ်နေတဲ့စက်ရုံကို ဧပြီလအစမှာပဲ ပိတ်လိုက်ပါတယ်။ အခြေအနေပိုဆိုးသွားတာက စက်ရုံပိုင်ရှင်က မေလမှာ ထွက်ပြေးသွားတော့ ကျွန်မတို့ အရင်လအတွက် လုပ်ခလစာကို မရခဲ့ပါဘူး။ အိမ်ငှားခ ဘယ်လိုပေးမလဲ၊ လစဉ်အကြွေးနဲ့ဝယ်နေကျ ဆန်ဝယ်ဖို့ ပိုက်ဆံဘယ်ကရမလဲ စဖြင့် တွေးတောစိတ်ပူခဲ့ရတာကြောင့် အဲဒီအချိန်တုန်းက ကျွန်မအတွက် အင်မတန်ခက်ခဲခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အစိုးရက အသွားအလာကန့်သတ်မှုတွေကြေညာခဲ့တာကြောင့် ကျွန်မအမျိုးသားလည်း အပြင်ထွက်ပြီး အလုပ်ရှာလို့မရတဲ့အတွက် အလုပ်လက်မဲ့ဖြစ်သွားပါတယ်" လို့ သူတို့ကြုံတွေ့ရတဲ့အခက်အခဲတွေအကြောင်း မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးက ပြောပါတယ်။

လျော်ကြေးငွေမရရှိခဲ့ကြဘဲ အလုပ်အကိုင်ဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ကြရတဲ့ World Jin အထည်ချုပ်စက်ရုံက ဝန်ထမ်း ၃၀၀ ကျော်ထဲမှာ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးလည်း တစ်ဦးအပါအဝင်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဆက်လက်ရှင်သန်ရပ်တည်ဖို့ ဝင်ငွေအရင်းအမြစ်မရှိတော့တဲ့အတွက် မိသားစုအနာဂတ်နဲ့ပတ်သက်ပြီး သူ့အနေနဲ့ မျှော်လင့်ချက်မဲ့သလို ခံစားခဲ့ရပါတယ်။

"ကျွန်မအမျိုးသားရော ကျွန်မပါ အလုပ်လက်မဲ့ဖြစ်သွားတဲ့အတွက် အစားအသောက်ဝယ်ဖို့၊ အကြွေးဆပ်ဖို့အတွက် ဝင်ငွေမရှိတော့သလို အိမ်ရှင်နဲ့ အကြွေးရှင်တွေကလည်း ကျွန်မတို့အပေါ် အရင်လို မကြည်ဖြူတော့ဘူး။ လူကြီးတွေဖြစ်တဲ့ ကျွန်မတို့က ကိစ္စမရှိပေမယ့် ကလေးတွေအတွက် စိတ်ပူမိခဲ့ပြီး တစ်ခါတလေ ငိုတောင်ငိုမိပါတယ်။"

ရောင်ခြည်ဦးအလုပ်သမားများအဖွဲ့ဟာ သူတို့ဆီမှာ လုပ်အားပေးလာရောက်လုပ်ကိုင်နေတဲ့ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးလို အလုပ်သမားတွေရဲ့အခွင့်အရေးအတွက် ဆောင်ရွက်ပေးနေတဲ့အဖွဲ့အစည်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးဟာ ရောင်ခြည်ဦးကနေတဆင့် Save the Children ရဲ့ မိတ်ဖက်အဖွဲ့အစည်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်တဲ့ Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar(STUM)နဲ့ ချိတ်ဆက်မိခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အသက်မွေးဝမ်းကျောင်းနှင့်စားနပ်ရိက္ခာ ဖူလုံရေးရန်ပုံငွေအဖွဲ့(LIFT)ရဲ့ ဘဏ္ဍာရေးထောက်ပံ့မှုနဲ့အတူ Save the Children ဟာ ဝင်ငွေဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ကြရတဲ့ အလုပ်သမားရာပေါင်းများစွာကို လစဉ် ဘက်စုံသုံးငွေကြေးထောက်ပံ့မှုတွေ ပေးလျက်ရှိပါတယ်။

Save the Children ရဲ့ ထောက်ပံ့ငွေတွေက သူ့မိသားစုအတွက် အင်မတန်အရေးပါခဲ့တယ်လို့ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးကဆိုပါတယ်။ "Save the Children ကလွှဲပေးတဲ့ ထောက်ပံ့ငွေကို မေလမှာ ပထမဆုံးအကြိမ်ရရှိခဲ့ပြီး ကျွန်မတို့မိသားစုအတွက် ကြီးမားတဲ့ အထောက်အကူဖြစ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဒီငွေနဲ့ အိမ်ငှားခပေးနိုင်ခဲ့ပြီး ဆန်၊ ဆီ၊ စားသောက်ကုန်တွေနဲ့ အခြားလိုအပ်တဲ့ ပစ္စည်းတွေဝယ်ယူနိုင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဒီလိုမျိုး ကျဉ်းထဲကျပ်ထဲမှာ အခုလိုအထောက်အပံ့ရခဲ့တဲ့တာက ကျွန်မတို့ကို တော်တော်အသက်ရှုချောင်စေခဲ့ပါတယ်" လို့ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးကဆိုပါတယ်။

မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးဟာ ရောင်ခြည်ဦးအဖွဲ့မှာ လုပ်အားပေလုပ်ဖို့ လာတဲ့အခါမှာ သူ့ရဲ့သားလေးကို သူနဲ့တပါတည်း အမြဲခေါ်လာပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် လေးလသားအရွယ် သမီးလေးကိုတော့ အိမ်နီးနားချင်းတွေဆီမှာ တစ်နေ့ ၂၀၀၀ ကျပ်နဲ့ ကလေးထိန်းပေးဖို့ အပ်ခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ ရောင်ခြည်ဦးမှာ လုပ်အားပေးလုပ်ရတဲ့အတွက် သူ့အနေနဲ့ ပျော်ရွှင်နေပြီး တချိန်တည်းမှာပဲ အခြားအလုပ်အကိုင်အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေကိုလည်း ရှာဖွေလျက်ရှိပါတယ်။

"စက်ရုံက ပြန်ဖွင့်မယ်၊ မဖွင့်ဘူးဆိုတာ မသေချာတဲ့အတွက် အခြားနေရာတွေမှာလည်း ကျွန်မအလုပ်လျှောက်ထားပါတယ်။ Save the Children ကလွှဲပေးတဲ့ ဒုတိယအကြိမ် ထောက်ပံ့ငွေကို ဇွန်လထဲမှာ ရရှိခဲ့ပြီး အဲဒီအတွက် ကျေးဇူးအများကြီးတင်ပါတယ်။ ကျွန်မလိုပဲ အခုလိုမျိုး ငွေကြေးအထောက်အပံ့ရရှိခဲ့ကြတဲ့ လုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက်တွေကိုစား ကျွန်မတို့ကို အထူးသဖြင့် အခုလိုအကျပ်အတည်းကာလမှာ ကူညီပံ့ပိုးပေးခဲ့တဲ့ Save the Children နဲ့ အလှူရှင်အဖွဲ့ကို ကျေးဇူးတင်ကြောင်း ပြောကြားလိုပါတယ်" လို့ မနှင်းနွယ်ဦးက ပြောပါတယ်။
