COVID-19 global pandemic has had a devastating impact on Myanmar’s garment industry and especially to garment factory workers with thousands of jobs lost due to cancelled orders. Focusing on those who haven’t received any severance packages, Save the Children is supporting hundreds of workers who have lost their income through multipurpose monthly cash distributions, supported by LIFT Myanmar.

Khin Thidar Aung who was formerly employed at the now-closed Myanmar Royal Apollo garment factory said: “This is the second time I am receiving cash support. Because of receiving first time cash transfer, I was able to support my family from Ayeyarwaddy for their survival during the time I had no income and then I could afford my transportation when I was returning to Yangon to seek job . Today is the first joining date of new job. My daily wages is 4,800 MMK. Now, I have little money so that I am really happy to receive cash as second time transfer and I can pay hostel fees. Thanks to Save the Children and donor”.
